Amitlaw is a maritime, international trade and general commercial law niche practice based in Ghana. The legal matters we concentrate our practice on include charterparty and bill of lading disputes, cargo claims, marine insurance claims and disputes, collision, towage and general average disputes, ship arrest, ship finance transactions, ship sale and purchase agreements, vessel registration and maritime regulatory compliance matters, international sale and purchase agreements, import and export procedures and documentation, customs compliance disputes, incorporation and company regulatory matters, and all manner of commercial and contractual disputes.  

In advising and representing our clients on such matters, our primary objective is to minimise their risks and maximise their gains. We achieve this by bringing to bear on the issues presented to us for solution, our understanding of our clients’ commercial environment and needs, commercial realism and expert knowledge of the areas of law we concentrate on.

Amitlaw was formed in 2002 in London, UK where it sought to provide legal solutions to the maritime problems faced by American and African businesses and individuals engaged in the maritime, export and import trades in the UK.  In 2005, having established useful relationships with clients doing business in West Africa, and convinced of the need for our package of services in Ghana and West Africa for that matter, Amitlaw moved to Ghana where we have operated from since.

Being relatively young, our clients benefit from a vibrant and innovative approach to providing legal services, which involves a painstaking effort to understand our clients’ commercial goals, developing long term lawyer/client relationships and injecting commercial realism into client advice and representation.

Amitlaw aims in the medium term to be the leading international, maritime and commercial law firm in West Africa, with the requisite professional capacity and experience to adequately and cost effectively advise and represent our clients locally and internationally.
